Whether you've decided to make a change to your current career path or take on a new challenge, our tips will help you step back into the world of education and make the most of student life, whatever stage you're at.

It takes time!

Don’t pressure yourself to have it all sussed from week one. You’ll soon get into the swing of prioritising tasks and settle in to your routine. Being organised from the start of each semester will help you with juggling life and university. Identify the best time and environment for you to study, then plan around this.

The Student Success Centre also runs a Mature Learners Induction. To helo support your transition into University life.  You can also download the Study Skills Toolkit to  support you in your academic journey.

Strike a balance

You may have a number of commitments as well as your studies such your family, a job, or pets! Make sure you keep a balance and allow time for you to keep being you.

Check out our blog on Time Management to help get you started.

Get social

Don’t hold back from societies or events. We have societies and social activities for all interests, from dance, music, sport, and politics to animation, film, horticulture and gaming.

Age is just a number, and at university, no one cares how old you are. You might just find what you’re looking for in one of the many societies available to join across our campuses. Check out the full range of societies and connect with your Ulster University community.

We also have a mature student society in Coleraine (with others hoping to start), which organises events such quiz nights, live music, and coffee cathcups.

Look for support

Ulster University has a wide range of resources for those looking for advice and support. Connect with your lecturers, subject librarians and fellow students, or check out the support channels at Ulster University through:
